It starts November 15 and runs until February 15. This has been shortened from the 6 month time period in 2014 that ran until March 31 so consumers are encouraged to start enrolling as soon as possible to avoid peak periods and prevent delays. If you don’t have insurance, you’ll be fined and you won’t be able to receive free tax subsidies to reduce your monthly cost until enrollment re-opens in November. For 2016 the fine is 2% of your yearly income or $325 per adult, whichever is higher, and there are additional fines if you have children. The fee increases every year. In 2016 it is 2.5% of income or $695 per adult, whichever is higher.
If you’re unemployed or make less than $46,680 a year you can get a tax subsidy to help you. Try our calculator or give us a call. Also make sure you know all your options and read our “6 Must-Read Options to Consider Before Enrolling”
